Beas Kund is the perfect introduction to Himalayan trekking: short enough for a long weekend, yet wild enough to feel like a real expedition. The trail starts at Solang Nallah above Manali and climbs through the wide green meadows of Dhundi and Bakarthach to a small glacial lake at 12,772 ft - the legendary source of the river Beas.

The amphitheatre around the lake is ringed by some of Himachal's most famous mountaineering peaks: Hanuman Tibba, Friendship Peak and the Seven Sisters. It is no accident that this valley has long been a training ground for climbers, and that YHAI's very first national adventure program, in 1970, was the nearby Solang Nallah trek.

Great for first-timers

  • A beginner-friendly trail with gentle, scenic gradients
  • Glacial meadows at Dhundi and Bakarthach
  • Close-up views of Hanuman Tibba and Friendship Peak
  • The sacred glacial source of the Beas river

The YHAI way

Easily combined with YHAI's Manali base-camp programs, Beas Kund is ideal for building confidence and altitude before tackling longer treks. The season runs from June to October.
