Program Overview

• The Valley of Flowers , spanning 87 sq km in Chamoli District, Uttarakhand , is a UNESCO World Heritage site . Nestled in the Himalayan Ranges , it remained unknown until Mountaineer Frank S. Smith discovered it in 1931 . This breathtaking paradise is a convergence point of the Western and Eastern Himalayas and is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and glaciers .
• The valley showcases 300+ species of wildflowers , including Blue Poppy , Brahmakamal , and Geranium . The region is also home to diverse wildlife, as the Himalayan black bear , grey langur , and flying squirrels . The best time to visit is from mid-July to mid-August , when the flowers are in full bloom .

Eligibility

• Age : 18 to 65 years
• YHAI Membership is mandatory
• Must submit a Trekking Medical Certificate

Mandatory

• Trekking Medical Certificate will be compulsory at the time of reporting only (with 30 days of validity), duly signed by a registered Medical Practitioner (MBBS / MD only) along with his registration number and stamp.

How to Reach the Base Camp

• Rishikesh , Bharat Mandir Dharamshala (Approx. 250 km from Delhi)
• Nearest Airport : Jolly Grant Airport
• Nearest Railway Station : Rishikesh / Haridwar
• State transport buses are available from Delhi , Haridwar , and Dehradun .

How to Join

Online Booking

• Apply online via www.yhaindia.org and pay the ₹9900 program fee .
• After successful payment, an Admit Card will be generated.

Offline Booking

• Fill out the Trekking Registration Form and submit it with your Trekking Medical Certificate and a Demand Draft of ₹9900 in favour of Youth Hostels Association of India , payable at New Delhi .

What to Bring

• Clothing : Shirts, slacks, woollen sweaters or jackets, inners, raincoat
• Trekking Essentials : Trekking shoes , socks (4 pairs), gloves
• Personal Items : Sun cap , goggles , toiletries (soap, tissue, towel) , cold cream/Vaseline
• Tools : Lunchbox , enamelled/steel mug, plate, spoon, penknife, needle & thread, spare buttons
• Medications : Personal medicine (normally used at home)

Special Casual Leave

• Trekking expeditions by YHAI have the approval of the Ministry of Personnel .
• Central Govt. Employees can apply for Special Casual Leave (up to 30 days per year) for expeditions .

Photography Competition

• After completing the program, participants can submit colour photographs on themes like:
• Scenic beauty
• Camping
• Trekking
• Biking
• Nature (Birds, Flowers, Wildlife)

Photo Requirements

• Size: 10 inch x 12 inch

Include details on the back

• Location, participants name, contact info, and group number
• Deadline : 30 Sep, 2026

• Route/Program Schedule : Subject to change based on weather and local conditions

Before Booking

• Kindly read the program details carefully before making your booking!

Cancellation Method

• Participants booked online must cancel online a minimum of 05 days prior to the reporting date.
• Participants booked offline must email trekking@yhaindia.org a minimum of 05 days prior to the reporting date.
• Requests received less than 05 days before the reporting date are not eligible for credit shell or refund.

Credit Shell

• 100% credit shell of the participation fee, valid till 31st December 2026, usable on any YHAI adventure programme.
• If the next programme is cheaper, the balance can be used on another trek; if costlier, pay the difference.
• Seats may be transferred to family or friends (transferred seats cannot be re-transferred or cancelled).

Refund

• Alternatively, participants may opt for a 50% refund instead of the 100% credit shell, subject to the same notice conditions.

Note: If a programme is cancelled due to natural calamity, government restriction or withdrawal of permission, YHAI is accountable only for the programme fee and not for other expenses incurred by participants.
