




Overview
The Youth Hostels Association of India has run affordable adventure programmes for over fifty years. The Family Camping Program began in 1995, as part of the silver jubilee of YHAI national trekking, to give families the same outdoor experience on their own terms. This Dussehra edition camps at Seobagh in the Kullu valley, at about 4,000 ft.
What the Camp Includes
- Four nights of tented stay
- Simple vegetarian meals
- Check-out on day five after breakfast
Flora and Fauna
- Dense forests of deodar, pine, fir and spruce
- Medicinal herbs including Hath Panja and Brahma Kamal
- Snow leopard, Himalayan brown bear and tahr in the wider landscape
- Monal pheasant and the western tragopan, the state bird
- The Great Himalayan National Park nearby
Optional visits to nearby attractions carry extra charges, payable at reporting.

Facts & Eligibility
Who Can Join
- Any YHAI member family - husband, wife and up to two children of 12 years or under.
- A third child, and any child over 12, is charged an extra Rs. 1,000 per head.
- Single participants are not allowed. Husband and wife must both be YHAI members.
- Attach a photograph of the family head and age proof for the children. Photo ID of the family head is required at registration.
- Parents travelling with infants should bring their own baby feeding supplies.
- Seats are limited and non-transferable.
How to Reach the Base Camp
- By road: regular buses from Delhi, Chandigarh and Punjab to Kullu. Every Manali bus passes through Seobagh.
- By train: nearest stations are Ambala and Chandigarh.
- By air: nearest airport is Bhuntar.
How to Register
- Online: register at www.yhaindia.org or www.yhai.in, pay Rs. 8,500 and generate your admit card. Carry the admit card, medical certificate and membership card.
- Offline: submit the form and medical certificate with a demand draft for Rs. 8,500 to the Youth Hostels Association of India, 5 Nyaya Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi - 110021. Contact 7827999000.
Camp Rules
- No deviation from the schedule, and no staying outside the camp during the programme.
- An eco-friendly camp: do not litter, and carry waste back to the base camp.
- No washing of clothes at the camp, and no wood burning.
- Smoking, alcohol and narcotics are prohibited.
- YHAI is not liable for personal accidents or other incidents.
What to Bring
- Waterproof non-skid shoes, sandals, woollen and cotton socks
- T-shirts, trousers, windcheater, raincoat, sweater and jacket
- Woollen and waterproof gloves, caps, bandana, sunglasses
- Torch with spare batteries, water bottle, water purification tablets, lunch box
- Toiletries, personal medicines and a basic first aid kit
- Camera, pen and notebook, passport photographs, ID and membership card
- Original medical certificate, and an indemnity bond for anyone over 60

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation Method
- Participants booked online must cancel online a minimum of 05 days prior to the reporting date.
- Participants booked offline must email trekking@yhaindia.org a minimum of 05 days prior to the reporting date.
- Requests received less than 05 days before the reporting date are not eligible for credit shell or refund.
Credit Shell
- 100% credit shell of the participation fee, valid till 31st December 2026, usable on any YHAI adventure program.
- If the next program is cheaper, the balance can be used on another trek; if costlier, pay the difference.
- Seats may be transferred to family or friends (transferred seats cannot be re-transferred or cancelled).
Refund
- Alternatively, participants may opt for a 50% refund instead of the 100% credit shell, subject to the same notice conditions.
Note: If a program is cancelled due to natural calamity, government restriction or withdrawal of permission, YHAI is accountable only for the program fee and not for other expenses incurred by participants.
